It’s that time of year again. Anyone staying in the cottages this week will have seen the combine harvester out in the fields. The team at Press Mains Farm has been working towards this all year and we’re finally getting the crops in after a difficult year weather-wise.
A dry spring has affected all farmers across the UK, but here on the East Coast we have fared better than many. Rain came in the nick of time and we’ve had just enough sunshine to ready the crops for harvest. Unlike the South, where harvest is nearly finished, we are only just starting. Yet we need to establish next year’s crops within the same time window, mid October, which means that we work every day we can when the weather allows.
It’s an exciting and busy time for us although we appreciate that it can be a little noisy. The tractors and trailers bringing the grain in from the combine trundle along the road and can sometimes go quite late but we hope all our visitors will understand.
